Biography / Artist Statement

Duward Campbell has been involved in creative activities most of his life; he became serious about drawing and painting during his junior high school years. At that time, he was showing work in several galleries in Dallas and Houston. These interests continued at Texas Tech University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1975.

Although he has painted and drawn in a realistic manner since high school, Duward has tried to reach other formats and media. He has been involved in a variety of creative ventures that vary from designing and building both furniture and architectural structures, as well as photography, layout, and graphics for award winning books.

Whether completing a painting of a cowboy on horseback or designing a piece of furniture, the basis for his work has been skillful drawing and composition with the application of good design.

He is a past member of the American Indian and Cowboy Artist where he has served as a board member and representative to the Autry Museum of Western Heritage. He has also served on the National Advisory Board for the National Ranching Heritage Association and is on the Board of Advisors for Sia (Comanche Nation Ethno-Ornithological Initiative) in Oklahoma.
