Art on the Llano Estacado
Artist 21 of 38

Hilton McLaurin

Biography

Paint on canvas is my current interest. Southwest landscapes, the subject of most of these efforts are comfortable for me. My West Texas upbringing influences every painting. Seems like the grasses of Gaines County where I was a youth are always there, sometimes the structures we live in, the southern Rockies and the staggered edge of the Llano Estacado, where my aunt “Dude” used to bake sourdough bread at Justiceburg.

One of my goals in painting is balance, with a composition that places no demands on the viewer. The craftsmanship, is in the stroke of my #10 Bright brush, and the variety of color, weight and values of paint. I spend a lot of time mixing paint.

The common factor in all of my artistic efforts has been my awesome wife Barbara, my family and friends in the ole “Hub.”

Art on the Llano Estacado – An awesome event!! I look forward to 2017.
