Biography / Artist Statement
Suzie Baker is an award-winning oil painter based near Houston, Texas, celebrated for her representational and impressionistic style. Her diverse portfolio encompasses lush landscapes, evocative still lifes, and compelling portraits, all characterized by a loose, alla prima technique that captures the essence of her subjects.
Suzie’s work has garnered national acclaim, with features in publications such as Plein Air Magazine, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Southwest Art. Her paintings have been showcased in prestigious national shows and plein air events, reflecting her versatility and commitment to her craft. Notably, her piece “Past, Present, and Future” received the Bronze Medal Award at the 2024 Oil Painters of America National Convention.
Suzie has also served as a Board Member of the Oil Painters of America since 2014, including a term as President from 2020 to 2022. Her dedication to continuous improvement and expressive mark-making is evident in each piece she creates.
