Ian McDonald

Biography / Artist Statement

Ian McDonald, an interdisciplinary artist residing in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas, is a versatile painter and muralist with an interest in connecting through music and live painting. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Oregon in 2016, Ian has committed to connecting with people in a tangible way through live painting at concerts, music festivals and live events. Thus allowing the idea of transforming the artistic experience into a shared journey. 

Intrigued with sculpture, photography, painting and music, Ian has been on a mission to combine mediums and process for calculated unexpectedness. Ian navigates his process through various techniques, styles and mediums with the intention of creating abstract soundscapes through color harmony, spontaneous decision making and calculated risks. However, experimenting with the dynamic interplay of acrylics, spray paint and resin allows him to craft vibrant interwoven layers resembling the movement of frequencies and sound. 

Ian was an emerging artist at the 2024 Lubbock Arts Festival where he displayed his first body of work titled, “Tech Decks”.
