Biography / Artist Statement
Art has always been a passion of mine, and I have always felt happiest when I have been creating something beautiful. Most of my art (painting) education came from my mother who is a wonderful artist. I grew up in a house where there was always the smell of turpentine and art on the easel. I did not intentionally pursue art as a career. I graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in the Science of Nursing. I worked as a critical care nurse for 13 years before retiring to raise my two children. When they were old enough and self-sufficient, I began to actively pursue a career in painting. My mom was a huge help to me and most of what I know about art, I learned from her. When painting, I try to create paintings that I feel, have soul. Soul will pull you to a piece and hold you and you may not even know why. It speaks to you somehow. Art has brought me so much joy and I hope my art also brings this same kind of joy to others.
