Biography / Artist Statement

Born and raised in West Texas, Kelly grew up admiring the works of Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keefe, the Old Masters, and Jose Guadalupe Posadas. Most of her younger years were spent drawing and sketching portraits. Once discovering a love for oil painting, Kelly pursued the arts through education and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting from Texas Tech University in 2011. In 2019, Kelly returned to Texas Tech University and graduated to obtain her Masters of Fine Arts.

Kelly is actively involved in making art for local restaurants such as La Diosa Cellars, Picosos Mexican Kitchen, Cotton Court’s Midnight Shift, and many others. Kelly often indulges colorful portraits of Frida Kahlo and portraits of the beautiful people of Latin culture. Currently, Kelly is a full-time professional artist, conducts private painting lessons, and is the executive director for Grey Edges, an arts non-profit organization that she is building from the ground up. She has also been awarded the William D. Kerns Award in the Visual Arts from LHUCA, in 2022. During the school semesters, Kelly is an adjunct professor at Lubbock Christian University and Texas Tech University. This is Kelly’s second year to participate in the Art on the Llano Estacado.
